Close-up magic refers to magic performed in close proximity to the audience. Also known as ‘Table Hopping’, Strolling Magic’ or ‘Intimate Magic’, this branch of magic features the magician performing at close quarters using smaller props such as cards, coins, rings and money.
Close-up magic has been highly popularised by well-known magicians such as David Blaine who performs close-up magic on the streets. Usually highly interactive and audience participative, a professional magician can present close-up magic in many different forms:
Close-up/Parlour Shows/Corporate – Formal sit-down or stand-up shows for smaller audiences such as private parties, hospitality/ VIP suites, trade shows, weddings, dinners and small venues etc.
Walk-Around/ Mingling Magic– For cocktail receptions, stand-up parties, pre-dinner receptions, pre-wedding breakfast (photos), BBQs, garden parties, weddings, charity ball functions, dinners, birthday/anniversary parties and shop openings etc. Close-up Magic is so adaptable it can be performed just about anywhere, even on the largest stage. .
